The Best Things To Do In Caye Caulker, Belize

There’s a beautiful little island off the coast of Belize called Caye Caulker. It’s a tiny slice of paradise that takes less than 15 minutes to walk across. I was lucky enough to spend my birthday there last year as part of my Central America adventure, and it quickly became one of my favourite stops.

To get there, you’ll catch a ferry from Belize City, which takes about 45 minutes. We timed ours at sunset, and it was absolutely magical — the sky was painted in incredible colours as we cruised across the water.

Once you arrive, the pace slows down immediately. Whether you're after adventure or just want to relax and do nothing at all, Caye Caulker has something for you. Here are some of the best things to do on this laid-back Caribbean gem:

1. Try Stand-Up Paddleboarding

Glide across the calm, turquoise waters and soak in the peaceful surroundings — it’s a great way to start your day.

2. Rent a Bottomless Canoe

This was such a fun way to explore the coastline. The water is so clear, you’ll spot huge starfish, colorful fish, and maybe even a stingray or two.

3. Morning Yoga at Namaste Café

Ease into the day with a yoga session at Namaste Café. It's a beautiful little spot that offers free classes (donations appreciated) and a cozy café for a healthy breakfast afterward.

4. Indulge at the Belize Chocolate Company

Their chocolate smoothie is the stuff of dreams. Rich, creamy, and made with local Belizean cacao — don’t miss it!

5. Rent a Bike (Optional)

Biking is fun, but the island is so compact that walking might be just as quick. Still, a leisurely cruise on two wheels is always a vibe.

6. Visit Koko King Beach

Catch the free water taxi to Koko King, a lively beach club with white sand, cocktails, music, and a perfect spot to swim or tan. It’s touristy but worth a visit for the atmosphere.

7. Take a Snorkeling Day Trip

There are tons of local tour companies offering day trips to the Belize Barrier Reef. Snorkel with nurse sharks, rays, and vibrant reef fish — the water is insanely clear.

8. Scenic Flight Over the Blue Hole

This is definitely a splurge, but if you can swing it, a flight over the iconic Great Blue Hole is unforgettable. You only live once, right?

9. Catch the Sunset at The Split

End the day at The Split, a popular spot where the island was literally split in two by a hurricane. Grab a drink, dip your toes in the water, and watch the sun sink below the horizon.
