Highlights of Oman

Oman may seem an unusual choice for travel. I bet it’s not at the top of your bucket list. However, for me, it was purely out of interest. I went on a two-week tour through Oman with GAdventures in 2019 and combined it with a trip to Iran and Qatar. It was absolutely fascinating. It felt like a mix of many countries I have visited. The food was delicious, the people were so friendly, and the landscapes were truly surprising.

In Oman, you’ll find;

plenty of goats, camels, and donkeys. You must visit the goat markets; it’s so much fun to see how it all works.
speed bumps on the road to slow drivers down. Lemon mint juice is what everyone drinks, and it’s so refreshing to have in the extreme heat. The rocky mountains are spectacular, and they’re not as daunting as I expected. I did have my eyes closed for part of it, though! I was so thankful to sit in the front seat, which lessened my car sickness
desert camps in the middle of nowhere, and it was incredible! The sunset is a sight to behold. Swimming in the sinkhole was another wow moment. We did a night tour and were so fortunate to see a mama turtle laying eggs, and then we spotted baby turtles crawling into the water afterwards. Such a highlight not just of Oman but of my life!
small Grand Canyon offers a day hike through this massive canyon. It’s a bit tough going but definitely worth it.
