Pacific Island Dreaming
Within the Pacific Ocean not far from Australia, there are many islands calling my name.
18 main countries to be exact. Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Wallis and Futuna.
I have been to the Cook Islands way back in 2001. I stayed for a month whilst completing my second year teaching practicum in one of the local schools. My sister and I have been to Tonga as well for a two-week escape and when I say escape, I mean that literally, there is no way you would have found us, it was so secluded and deserted. I have been to New Zealand twice, once on a Contiki tour with my sister in 2005 our first big trip away together and then a few years ago my sister and I hired a car and showed our parents around the South Island. It is a country you could return to many times and never be disappointed.
Whilst I am on holiday, I usually enjoy the adventure, ‘doing’, ‘seeing’, exploring part of a new place, so the relaxed, chill vibe of the islands is not something that has attracted me. Until now. I am getting older now and I think I am ready for some holidays where I do nothing, but go to the beach and get massages.
I have found attractions and draw cards besides just the incredible ocean, the sandy beaches and the lush mountains. I can not wait to experience the;
Coral Reefs in the Soloman Islands
Waterholes, Limestone Islands, Conflict Islands and the Tropical Lagoon, also to see a Goroka Show and Asaro Mud Men, in Papua New Guinea
The coastline along East Timor
Pamalican Island in the Philippines. Also Chocolate Hills, Il Nido, Palawan
Bligh Waters and Sawa-i-lau Caves, on Yasawa Island, Fiji
Noumea Lagoon, Barrier Reef and the heart of Voh in New Caledonia
Raiatea Island and Bora Bora Lagoon as part of the French Polynesia
To-Sua Ocean Trench in Samoa
Rock Islands in Palau
The active volcano, Mt Yasur in Vanuatu
Which Pacific Islands have you been to? What places are a must see? I am always after recommendations. We would love it if you joined the conversation and left a comment below.
