Tight Ass Travel Tips For The Blue Mountains
We were invited to a friends birthday lunch last weekend at their home in Leura. I can count on one hand the times I have been to the Blue Mountains so I thought this would be a perfect excuse to book a night away and do some exploring while we were in the area.
I did a little research of things to do, places to eat, etc before we left in addition to putting out a Facebook post hoping for some great recommendations from those who have been there recently. And I did get some great tips.
A visit to the Blue Mountains does not have to cost a fortune and you can still have a ripper of a time.
You don’t have to spend money to;
take a drive along the Megalong Valley and enjoy the view
do a hike such as the one to the Three Sisters or Leura Cascades
stop at the numerous lookouts. Make sure to check out Govetts Leap Lookout for Bridal Veil Falls and Hargraves Lookout. They are the most impressive. You also have the Echo Point Lookout and Eagle Hawk Lookout for the Three Sisters. Blackheath Lookout has views and you can check out the old hang glider launching ramp
take a walk around Wentworth Falls Lake. It also has cool play equipment for the kiddies
drop into the cute towns such as Blackheath and Leura and enjoy exploring the streets
wander through The Victory Theatre in Blackheath to explore the antique and collectable market stores
enjoy the free entertainment at the local pubs. We had dinner at the Alexandra Hotel in Leura and were pleasantly entertained by the Karaoke of a Saturday night
pack a picnic to enjoy at one of the great parks or lookouts such as Lincoln’s Rock
If coffee is what you are after we had great ones in Blackheath both at Anonymous as well as Blackheath Deli. Other places to recommend also include;
Dbl Ristretto, Springwood
Cassiopeia, Katoomba
Tournament, Medlow Bath
Kickaboom, Glenbrook
Suggestions for eating options include;
Leura Garage, Leura
Sorensen’s Glasshouse & Gardens, Leura
Fairmont Resort, Leura
The Bootlegger Bar, Leura
8 Things, Katoomba
Café 92, The Conservation Hut, Wentworth Falls
Fed Café, Wentworth Falls
We booked a night at the Hydro Majestic in Medlow Bath which was centrally located, and convenient to what we wanted to see and do. The view from our room was incredible to wake up to however the rooms are extremely overpriced particularly in regards to the size of the room. They are petite size, just big enough to fit a double bed. We were disappointed with the money we spent so we didn’t stick around for too long. There was plenty to explore anyway.
Despite the underwhelming accommodation, we had a great weekend away. We were fortunate with the weather. It was fresh but not freezing. No snow but no rain either. It is definitely a place you can explore for a day, with no need to stay overnight. The extra day just gives you more time to explore the local sights, being able to enjoy them for longer or take a longer hike.
Have you plans to go visit The Blue Mountains? The Blue Mountains are only a bit over an hour away from our home which is nothing really. I hope to visit again soon. We would love it if you joined the conversation and left a comment below.
