True Self Profile - Yasmin from ‘Nourishing Yas’

This month we are featuring the gorgeous Yasmin from the ‘Nourishing Yas’ blog. On her blog and Instagram, she shares simple plant-based recipes (sweet treats are her specialty) along with her own Anorexia recovery journey. Yasmin wants to show people that it is possible to heal your relationship with food, exercise and your body. Her main aim is to show people that there is life beyond an eating disorder and inspire them to become the healthiest and happiest versions of themselves.

1. What inspires you in your everyday life?

I am mainly inspired by the people I see on social media - Chessie King is one person that I really look up to and my Mum is another person who has always inspired me.

2. Tell us your favourite: stress release practice, the thing you are most grateful for, book

My favourite stress release practice is Yoga, my favourite book is The Tattooist of Auschwitz and I'm most grateful for the friendships that I've made in the past year.

3. What has been a life-defining moment for you?

One of my most life-defining moments was definitely in summer last year when I made the decision to fully commit myself to recovery. It's shaped and changed my life in so many ways - all for the better.

4. What is the most important thing you have learnt about yourself in your life’s journey?

I've learnt that I have an incredible amount of determination and strength in me that I never knew that I had before. I now truly believe that if I put my mind to it, I can achieve whatever I set out to.

5. Who are you currently learning the most from?

I am currently learning the most from everyone around me. I'm really learning to take the time to listen to, value and respect everyone's opinions and learn as much as I can from them.

6. What is your best life tip for others?

My best life tip is to do what makes YOU happy and learn from all of the experiences in your life, whether they be good or bad. One of my favourite quotes is 'no rain, no flowers' and it's something which I continually remind myself. Some good can still come from every 'bad' situation.

7. How do you deal with negative energy?

I deal with negative energy by removing myself from the situation when possible, or by practising yoga.

8. What's one thing you like to do every day that cultivates peace and happiness?

Practising yoga daily is definitely something that helps me to create inner happiness. I also ensure to take time for self-care every day and do something that makes me happy, but social interaction is such a huge part of maintaining daily happiness too.

9. How can we make a difference in the world?

I think that we can all make a difference in the world by being a little kinder to ourselves and to those around us - I think it's so important to be mindful of other people's feelings because you never know what they're dealing with. I also think it's important that we all make a conscious decision to incorporate more plant-based meals into our week.

10. Outline a perfect morning routine for us

A perfect morning for me would consist of a lie-in, waking up to a cup of coffee and a good breakfast - preferably pancakes or waffles!
