Starting 2026 with Purpose: How I’m Giving Back This Year

As the new year begins, I’ve been thinking about the small but meaningful ways we can all make a difference in 2026. Giving back doesn’t always mean grand gestures — sometimes it’s about showing up for your community, using what you have, and lending a hand where you can.

This year, I’ve made a few personal commitments to give back in ways that feel genuine to me:

  • Supporting my local community — I’m continuing my role as treasurer for our local Rural Fire Brigade, helping behind the scenes to keep our volunteers and resources strong.

  • Giving preloved books a new life — I’m raiding my shelves for children’s books to take overseas when I travel, hoping they’ll inspire a little curiosity and joy wherever they land.

  • Donating to Bunnings’ Share the Dignity drive — putting together bags filled with essentials and small comforts for women and girls who need them.

  • Giving regularly — I’ve set up monthly donations to three charities close to my heart, ensuring steady support throughout the year.

  • Joining in charity days — I’ll be pulling on my jeans again for Jeans for Genes Day and looking out for other local fundraisers throughout the year.

  • Set a goal to run 5km race, then build up to 10km, then maybe even a half marathon

  • Others goals include reaching 100 countries this year so I have mapped it all out

Each of these things may seem small, but together they add up — not just in the difference they make for others, but in how they make me feel more connected and grateful.
